ASHRAE Updates COVID-19 Guidance on Airborne Transmission

ISO-Aire™ HEPA Air Purifiers Align With Recommended Mitigation Strategy

Addressing best-practice recommendations for indoor air quality during the COVID-19 pandemic, experts on a key taskforce for the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) announced updated guidance to mitigate SARS-CoV-2 airborne transmission in building environments. The ASHRAE Epidemic Task Force, consisting of leading public health and medical experts, issued an April 5, 2021 statement:

ISO-Aire™ smart, portable air purifiers deliver proven COVID-19 mitigation strategies recommended by the CDC and ASHRAE. These commercial-grade models house up to three layers of proven medical-grade clean air technology, including 12-inch deep HEPA…

ISO-Aire™ smart, portable air purifiers deliver proven COVID-19 mitigation strategies recommended by the CDC and ASHRAE. These commercial-grade models house up to three layers of proven medical-grade clean air technology, including 12-inch deep HEPA filtration as well as UVC sterilization and/or ozone-free bipolar ionization to protect occupants inside schools, small businesses, day care centers, restaurants, and more.

Airborne transmission of SARS-CoV-2 is significant and should be controlled. Changes to building operations, including the operation of heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning systems, can reduce airborne exposures.

This new direction, compared to the group’s recommendation issued in April 2020, replaces previous wording “sufficiently likely” with “is significant” to underscore the importance of proactive HVAC and air filtration mitigation solutions. This follows in step with what the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) acknowledged in 2020: an increased risk of SARS-CoV-2 airborne transmission indoors when the virus is disseminated via aerosols.

Smart air filtration solutions can help mitigate that risk, such as ISO-Aire. In fact, in its guidance to help mitigate COVID-19 in schools, both ASHRAE and the CDC recommend installing in-space HEPA filtration units, exactly like commercial-grade ISO-Aire. Our air purifiers are equipped with three layers of medical grade components, to combat the COVID-19 virus and its emerging variants, bacteria, and other air contaminants.

Portable air purifiers engineered with medical-grade HEPA filtration, such as ISO-Aire™, are a COVID-19 mitigation strategy that enhance air cleaning and create a safe, healthy indoor environment particularly in higher-traffic areas such as libraries, gymnasiums, and lunchrooms.

The CDC specifically notes:

Consider portable air cleaners that use high-efficiency particular air (HEPA) filters to enhance air cleaning wherever possible, especially in higher-risk areas such as a nurse’s office or sick/isolation room.

In addition to 12-inch deep HEPA, ISO-Aire™ models can be custom engineered with ozone-free bipolar ionization and/or UVC sterilization. Another differentiating factor that sets ISO-Aire™ apart from the competition is our signature air-throw strategy. Our powerful units pull air and airborne contaminants away from the source utilizing a high-powered fan. Recirculation models continuously capture and destroy 99.99% of harmful aerosolized particles and air pollutants and return purified air to the building environment.
