Do Air Purifiers Protect Against RSV?

What is RSV?

RSV, or respiratory synctial virus, is a common cold weather respiratory illness that affects children. It is very contagious, spreading quickly either through an airborne route or via touching a surface contaminated by RSV droplets. Most children will have had RSV by the time they are two years old, but it isn’t uncommon for older children and even adults to get it.

RSV symptoms show up in stages, and typically begin four to six days after being exposed. Similar to other respiratory illnesses, you should look for:

  • Sinus congestion

  • Cough

  • Loss of appetite

  • Headache

  • Fever

  • Sneezing

  • Sore throat

  • Wheezing

Air Purifiers Help Prevent RSV Transmission

Although there is no treatment for RSV, there are ways to minimize the chance of your child or you from getting it. As an airborne virus, RSV is spread when an infected person sneezes or coughs and their droplets get into your eyes, nose, or mouth. Another common way that RSV spreads is by touching a surface with droplets on it.

Aside from frequent hand-washing and surface decontamination, the implementation of an air purifier can be one of the best preventative measures to stop the spread of RSV. Air purifiers equipped with a HEPA filter are particularly effective against airborne viruses.
HEPA filters have been around for decades as a proven method for improving indoor air quality (IAQ), including the removal of germs like viruses and bacteria from the air. In fact, the CDC and ASHRAE both included portable HEPA air purifiers as one of their top recommendations for reducing the transmission of COVID-19, a viral disease spread in a similar manner to RSV. A HEPA filter is effective at trapping viruses because it consists of multiple layers that traps microscopic airborne particles, and can remove 99.97% or better of airborne particles like viruses, bacteria, mold, pollen, and other airborne particulates.

ISO-Aire HEPA air purifiers are a perfect solution to prevent transmission for RSV for residences, businesses, daycares, schools, and more.

At ISO-Aire, our team is dedicated to the research and development of medical-grade commercial and residential HEPA air purifiers. Our models range from 300-2000 CFM, perfectly designed for spaces like classrooms, daycare centers, fitness facilities, senior living centers, business offices, and much more.

In addition to a 12-inch thick, 99.99% effective HEPA filter, ISO-Aire models offer two additional levels of clean air technology, including ozone-free bipolar ionization and germicidal UVC. All ISO-Aire models are long-life and built to last, with a life expectancy of 15-20 years, far outlasting competitor models that are only expected to last three years, and made with cheap components.

According to Vice President, Kevin Albers, ISO-Aire models are an ideal solution for reducing the spread of RSV and other germs. “These models are a preferred IAQ solution because they are incredibly effective, while also being quiet, portable, and low-maintenance.”
