According to a news article posted in Kaiser Health News (7/22/20), renewed interest has sprung up toward the idea of using germicidal ultraviolet light (UVGI) inside buildings to stop the spread of viruses and other illnesses spread through the air. Germicidal UV light uses a particular short wavelength known as UVC. Reflecting on how the technology has been around for almost a century and how there is plenty of documentation that it is effective as a germicide (kills airborne germs in this case), businesses are starting to implement the technology inside in their attempt to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. These efforts have ramped up since the letter recently sent by over 200 scientists to the World Health Organization (WHO) requesting that the organization change its statement to include airborne spread for COVID-19.
